LATEST RESEARCH UPDATE: A recently published study evaluated the effect of diet, diet + myo-inositol (MI), or diet + MI + D-chiro-inositol (DCI) on clinical and body composition outcomes among overweight/obese women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Fourty-three women who were not on hormone therapy or taking any medications or over-the-counter products and did not have concurrent medical disease, were selected for this study. Weight loss was significant in all three groups after six months and was highest in the diet + MI + DCI group. This combination (diet + MI + DCI) was also the only group in which 100% of women experienced restoration of menstrual regularity. These results suggest that the combination of MI + DCI in a physiological plasma ratio of 40:1 is more effective than MI alone for menstrual cycle regulation among women with PCOS.
